Keynote III by Jussi Parikka
A geological Media Culture
Hybrid matters of digital culture are as much out there in operations of mining and energy as they are in “here” , in the laptops and devices which already include so much of “natural” inside them. This talk will open up the metallic and chemical sides of media technologies to a geopolitical perspective, and offer examples from recent art projects and discussions to connect this to a wider context of critical debates about aesthetics of the Anthropocene. These issues of aesthetics are about a multitemporal reality where the now here opens up to a multitude of durations, of slow chemical reactions, of accelerated operations of technological speeds.
